Budapest, Hungary, March 2013

A selection of photos from our recent visit to Budapest in Hungary

Something "fishy " about our room.. Actually, The Casati is an excellent hotel

The Royal Palace at night from across The Danube

The Chain Bridge, that links Buda and Pest

One of the many statues across the city

Hero's square

Tracey in the square

Vajdahunyad Castle in City Park

The port cullis entrance to Vajdahunyad Castle

inside the grounds of  Vajdahunyad Castle

The entrance to the Szechenyi thermal baths

Tracey in the Thermal baths. 10 degress outside but the water tempreture is 38 degrees centigrade

St Stephens Basillica by night

Another novelty statue

The Funicular railway to Castle Hill

The Funivular carriage

The view from the top

A Tram running alonside the Danube

Inside the Castle Hill Labyrinth, a series of caves and tunnels under the castle

The fishermans Bastion

The Parliament buildings from the castle

And from the river bank

The water bus... A boat that looks like a bus, sailing down the Danube river

The dome of St Stephens Basillica

Eating at the Menza, a really good resturaunt close to our hotel

The snow falling in the courtyard of our hotel

A really sobering place. The shoes at the edge of the river are made of bronze and are a monument
to the many hundreds of Jews who were lined up and shot, only for their bodies to fall in the river and be washed away.
during World war 2.

At the time of our visit, it was freezing cold and the snow was falling. We were able to walk away with our thoughts.
